Welcome to Mississippi

Mississippi has an abundance of visual beauty that is enhanced by mild climate and diverse vegetation.  It ranges from Gulf coast semi-tropical palms and citrus plants to the cool-loving shrubs in the foothills of the Appalachians.   A great place to live and enjoy the pleasures of gardening.  This site is devoted to encouraging others to travel the many trails that meander through the gardening map of Mississippi.

Where is Waldo??2008 Master Gardeners  With 229 registered for the Conference, including many of our new Master Gardeners, it was our largest MSMG Conference.  A link with additional pictures and other information about the conference  and some of the planning for 2009 Conference will be coming soon, so check back.

Some quick News items:

Two of the most frequently asked questions asked when a group of master gardeners get together are:

1) What kind of interesting projects are you working on?

2) How does your group make money to fund different projects?

If your MG Association has been working on some interesting projects  or managed to find some unique ways of getting them funded, pass them along and we will build a section on the MSMG website where others can visit and maybe even stimulate more ideas.

Click here to see the list of projects and their description of work to be done.  Keep checking back to see pictures of completed projects!

Work gets done by people who show up! Listed below is a list of people who showed up and worked during Operation Rejuvenation...See if you recognize the names of those persons who were working beside you.

Thanks so much to all who came to the coast, all the local Master Gardeners who organized and worked on the projects, and to all of the people who made donations to Operation Rejuvenation  that allowed us to purchase the materials it took to get plants in the ground. Take a moment to look at the list of contributors below that enabled us to complete this project.

Here are the people who signed up and worked during Operation Rejuvenation on the different MS Gulf Coast Projects.  There may have been some that just worked and never signed in.  You may have only known them by first names while pulling weeds or planting flowers... to all who came and helped, thanks again for the sweat equity in bringing back some of the horticultural beauty to our state!

Contributors to Operation Rejuvenation

Without the generous gifts from so many people across the U.S., it would not have been possible to even start all of the work that was needed.  Listed are contributors to Operation Rejuvenation - A Master Gardeners' project to repair and restore horticultural areas affected with damage from hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.  Additional contributors will be added to the list as they become available.  Thanks

The Operation Rejuvenation Fund has received some $28,000 in cash donations to purchase plant and landscape materials for the Gulf Coast Restoration projects.

In addition to the donations to Operation Rejuvenation, a number of contributors sent checks made out to Mississippi Extension Service.  These funds are being used to purchase horticulture resource books for the Extension Offices affected by the hurricanes.  At the end of August, 2006, checks totaling $600 have been put in this account.  The list of donors to this account are shown below.

Additional gifts of gardening books, magazines, reference manuals, bulbs, shrubs, trees and gardening equipment were sent to help with horticultural needs in the state.  Donors included:
